Sorry I missed it last week, busy, busy, busy!

I’m not exactly sure what year this pic is from, but it will help to explain why there are occasional references to Star Wars in my comics, or even the occasional Star Wars themed comic.

That’s a very young me, probably 7 or 8, and my really awesome “Jawas” t-shirt.  For those who were not kids when the original Star Wars movies came out, it’s kind of hard to explain the obsession that took a hold of me and countless thousands of other young boys, and girls, I’m sure.  But probably mostly boys.  Those films blew my mind.  I spent countless hours playing with the action figures with my brothers around our large yard and in the barn.  We recreated the movies, made stories of our own, and had tons of fun.  I read the books, comics, ate C-3PO’s cereal, and counted down the months until the next movie would come out.  It surpassed baseball as my most important pastime.  To say “I loved Star Wars” is a vast understatement.  And I obviously still do, hence the comics.

The picture was taken on the Indian Ladder Trail in Thatcher Park outside Albany, NY, where I grew up.  It was a pretty neat trail built into the side of the mountain.  Our property had trails through the woods that went into the park, and we used to spend a lot of time skiing to the park, hiking, sledding…it was pretty cool growing up next to that park.

But not as cool as Star Wars.

My First Comic Convention!!!! Sort of.

This weekend VA Comicon is having it’s first event of 2011, a FREE show at the Thai Top Ten Restaurant on the VCU campus in downtown Richmond, VA, from 10 am – 4 pm.  Back in November I worked the big 2 day show they held and had a fantastic time, met some amazing people, became friends with a few of them, and got my foot in the door for appearing as an artist at future cons.  Brett, who runs the VA Con, is a truly awesome guy, and I find myself unable to resist volunteering to help him out whenever I can.

SO….I will be a volunteer at the free show this weekend, registering and taking info from attendees for their mailing list, but I am also bringing along a bunch of original sketches to sell.  It will be mostly the superhero/Star Wars characters as dog drawings that I will have, but I will also bring along some card stock and pens, so if you want to swing by the show, say hey and meet me, and grab a free quickie sketch of Hunter or Gillian, feel free!  I would love to meet some of my loyal readers!  And it’s a free show!!

For more info on the con, go here:  http://vacomicon.com/2011/02/18/free-richmond-comic-show-saturday-feb-26th/

If you are interested in purchasing one of the original comics and want to pick it up at the show instead of paying online/shipping, please email me at chris@adogslifecomic.com and let me know which one you are interested in, and I will bring it along with me.

Hope to see you there!!
