Since I never got around to posting a sketch this weekend, I thought I’d do something I’ve not done in a while; make a sped up comic creation video! This is today’s (4-16-12) strip in under 3 minutes, backed by some fantastic music.
Since I didn’t ask them permission, I have to take a moment to plug the band that plays the song I put behind the video. They are The Simma Downs, out of Richmond, Virginia, and they are amazing. The bass player from our praise band at church is one busy guy, and this is just one of the bands he plays in. Their music is, in a word, wonderful. I don’t hear a lot of new music these days, but these guys blow anything I have heard out of the water. Please check out their debut album, “Beautiful Scars”, on CD Baby or iTunes. The album is also on Spotify. Give them a listen, and if you dig their stuff, please consider buying their album, and be sure to share! In this day and age of the internet and self publishing, guys like them (and me, of course!) rely heavily on our fans to share our stuff and spread the word.

Hey, that was cool! Very weird to see it all sped up like that. I’ve got to try something like that. Even for myself to see, I think it would be interesting. Music was good too. Reminded me a bit of Sawyer Brown. Good singing voice.
I always get a kick out of watching the inks go so quickly. I think I sped the coloring up too much, it’s kind of a blur. I’ll pass along the Sawyer Brown thing, he’ll get a kick out of that!
How did you video record your hand-drawn stuff? Did you use a web cam pointed down at your drawing board? or video camera? I’m just an old-skool guy trying to keep pace with technology. Thanks!
Oh, it’s a high tech set up! I use rubber bands to hold my webcam on my clip on drawing lamp above my desk. :p
I record it with webcam max, then use that same program to capture my screen while I Photoshop. Then I throw it all into windows movie maker, speed it up until it’s under 5 minutes, then pick a cool song for the background music.
So, it’s a little high techy, but nothing crazy. Sometimes I go a little nuts and use painter’s tape instead of rubber bands on the camera.
Thanks for the info! … When I was reading your above reply you hooked me with the “… high tech set up” line. I was thinking “Oh, no. Here comes something else I will have to learn or buy at the store.” … and then the line “I use rubber bands .. ” Too funny! LoL!! I was cracking up
Still have to buy a webcam tho. I’ll be searching for webcam max to read about it. I got painters tape tho. I’m repainting my studio for a new look.
